Vaarsuvius: Cone of Cold!
Calder: That would normally be a very reasonable choice, but I'm afraid I unburdened myself of that particular vulnerability quite some time ago, wizard.

The panel focuses on Calder's head as he casts a spell. Two ice blue rays come out of his eyes.
Calder: Have you?
Calder: Polar Ray.

The panel shifts back to Vaarsuvius and Blackwing as the wizard is hit and pierced by Calder's spell. SSSHHHEEENK!

The panel shows Belkar, Serini, Mimi, and Mr. Scruffy on the ground as Belkar jumps up and throws one of his daggers at Calder.
Belkar: Ugh, why didn't you just kill this bozo when you had the chance?
Serini: I wanted to, but he surrendered! We had a paladin in the party, remember?

The panel shows Calder as Belkar's dagger hits his neck while the Greenhilt Sword slices his side.
Calder: Had I known that you would trap me in my own body in an endless waking nightmare, I would have fought you and your wretched allies to the death!

The panel shows Belkar and Serini looking upwards at Calder while Mimi and Mr. Scruffy stand behind them.
Serini: Well you weren't supposed to be conscious the whole time!
Serini: Sucks to have spell resistance, I guess!

Calder's fiery breath engulfes Mimi and Serini, with Roy standing in the background as Belkar and Mr. Scruffy try to evade the attack.
Calder:(off-panel) This time, you will submit to me!

D&D Context[]
- Cone of Cold creates a cone-shaped area of extreme cold, dealing 1d6 cold damage per caster level, up to a maximum of 15d6.
- As Calder mentions in the first panel, Red Dragons have a vulnerability to cold damage, taking an additional 50% damage whenever they suffer cold damage, but according to his own words, Calder has rid himself of this somehow, possibly by the Suppress Weakness/Overcome Weakness feats from the Draconomicon.
- Polar Ray is an 8th level spell dealing 1d6 points of cold damage to a target per caster level, up to a maximum of 25d6. The Ocular Spell feat may be responsible for why the rays appear to come out of Calder’s eyes; another possibility is that it is simply an artistic design choice.
- Spell Resistance forces a caster to make a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) if they target a creature that possesses this special resistance. If the result of the caster level check does not at least equal the creature's spell resistance, the spell doesn't affect the creature.
