- Panel 1
The panel shows Calder's head, neck, and wings, covered in numerous wounds. Belkar is on top of the dragon's neck, holding onto his two daggers he has stuck into the dragon's flesh.
Calder: Unnnnghh...
Calder: Need...to...
Belkar: Awww, what's wrong, champ? You hangin' in there?
Belkar: Hey Roy, I think this guy may be feeling under the weather.
- Panel 2
The panel cuts to Roy standing on the ground, holding onto the Greenhilt Sword, with Elan standing behind him.
Roy: Listen, there's no way I'm going to let you go out there and start brainwashing people into a cult-
Roy: -but there are alternatives to dying on the table.
- Panel 3
The panel zooms in to show Roy alone.
Roy: I don't know if Serini has the ability to reinstate the stasis-
Roy: -but if she doesn't, we can let you stay and guard this room against any, say, sorcerer liches that happen-
- Panel 4
The panel expands to show Calder craning his neck to attack Roy with his fiery breath, with Elan barely outside the flames' reach.
Calder: NO!
Calder: I will serve Tiamat in Hell before I submit to your kind again!
- Panel 5
The panel shows Roy lying on the floor below one of Calder's claws, with the fighter pushing said claw up and away from himself.
Calder: And I will drag you all down to burn there with me!
- Panel 6
The panel shows Roy having managed to stand up while still pushing Calder's claw up with one hand as the Greenhilt Sword reappears in his other hand. PWOK!
Roy: First, it doesn't work that way!
Roy: The afterlife doesn't work on a "finders keepers" system.
- Panel 7
The panel shows Roy swinging his sword at Calder's stomach, cutting open a gash in the dragon's skin. slash!
Roy: And second, even if it did, there are more of us, why wouldn't you assume that we'd drag you up to the Upper Planes?
Roy: Other than the fact that they wouldn't want you unless you did a lot of repenting.
- Panel 8
The panel shows Roy ramming the Greenhilt Sword into the gash he cut open, presumably dealing massive damage to Calder's internal organs. SKLURTCH!
Roy: So I guess I've answered my own question but I feel I should reiterate that it does not work that way!!
Calder: AaaArrRGH!
D&D Context[]
- The breath weapon of an Ancient Red Dragon like Calder usually deals 20d10 points of fire damage, with an average of 110 points of damage.
- Tiamat is the five-headed Queen of chromatic (evil) dragons, possessing one red, one black, one white, one blue, and one green head. In the OOTS universe, she is a member of the Western Pantheon. However, in standard D&D, her lair is usually said to be on Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells of Baator, the Lawful Evil Outer Plane, where she resides with her five consorts, one Great Wyrm (1,201+ years of age) of each of the five types of chromatic dragons.
- The Upper Planes are the Outer Planes that serve as the afterlife for Good-aligned creatures, chiefly consisting of the Seven Heavens of Mount Celestia (Lawful Good), the Blessed Fields of Elysium (Neutral Good), and the Olympian Glades of Arborea (Chaotic Good), though inbetween planes exist. In the comic, Roy visited Mount Celestia between his death during the Battle of Azure City and his resurrection.
