Hoskin is a dwarf, a friend of Thirden, Durkon Thundershield and of his mother Sigdi Thundershield. After the death of Tenrin Thundershield, Sigdi developed close friendships with five dwarves, including Hoskin, with whom she shared a weekly dinner for years. He is balding, and his hair and beard are red. He had romantic feelings for Sigdi and eventually proposed marriage to her at least once, to which she responded by punching him in the jaw and knocking out one of his teeth. [1] By the time of Durkon's ordination, he was engaged to be married to another woman.[2] Durkon later performed his wedding ceremony. [3]
Hoskin and the other friends of Sigdi were all killed in a poison gas leak in a copper mine just prior to Durkon's birth. Sigdi used her own money to raise him despite having never met him before his death, in order to save him from an afterlife in Hel.[4]
When Durkon returned to Firmament and to life, Hoskin answered Sigdi's call to aid, joining in the fighting outside the Council of Clan Elders. When the council's magical defenses were brought down by Durkon's hammer throw, Hoskin was among those who fought Gontor Hammerfell, helping to hold him in the sunlight until he was destroyed.
