— Jephton the Unholy, Spawn of Hatred |
Jephton the Unholy, Spawn of Hatred was a sorcerer-Archmage and a master of arcane flexibility.
When Jephton died, his soul came to be in the possession of Director Lee, the infernal director of the Inter-Fiend Cooperation Commission. Jephton's soul was spliced onto the elven wizard Vaarsuvius as part of a deal to stop the Black dragon mother of the Wooden Forest who sought vengeance on the elf for disintegrating her adolescent child. The dragon had hoarded a piece of starmetal that was used to reforge the Greenhilt Sword. Jephton was joined in the soul splice by Ganonron and Haerta Bloodsoak.
During the splice, his powers were used to defeat the Mother Dragon and to fight the lich sorcerer Xykon. The battle with the dragon resulted in her demise along with all creatures related to that dragon, while the battle with Xykon nearly caused V's death, but merely caused him to delay his plan to find the gates when Blackwing lost his phylactery down a sewer grate.
Jephton provided no epic spell because he lost those slots to Xykon's energy drain spells.[1] Unlike the other two spliced souls, it is not possible to know if any particular spells were cast by Jephton.
While the other two souls spliced onto Vaarsuvius scowled and looked threatening, Jephton the Unholy smiled and grinned in almost all pictures of him.
Vaarsuvius was able to hold onto Jephton's soul for 20 minutes and 35 seconds,[2] resulting in a reciprocal debt of time to the IFCC.
