Malack's staff was a magical staff formerly belonging to the vampire lizardfolk Cleric Malack[1]. Following his death, it was claimed by the vampire spirit inhabiting the body of Durkon Thundershield that formerly served as the High Priest of Hel[2].
History[]
Malack has had the staff during his adventuring days in the Vector Legion[3]. Malack had it with him in the Draketooth Pyramid and used it to raise some of the dead Draketooth clan members as undead[4]. After killing Durkon, he used the staff to instantly revive Durkon as a vampire. Nale kills Malack by throwing his staff in the distance and Zz'dtri dispelling his protection spell. While Nale and Malack attack each other, Malack orders Durkon to bring the staff to him, but he dies before Durkon could get back, giving ownership of the staff to the vampire[2]. During the fight with Tarquin, Laurin Shattersmith recognizes her friend's staff and dispels it, dispelling the Protection from Daylight spell, which makes Durkon burn immediately. After the battle, "Durkon" holes himself in the storeroom, claiming to be researching the Protection from Daylight spell. He used it to raise the majority of the Creed of the Stone at the Northern Godsmoot[5]. Left behind when he escaped the temple, it was picked up by Roy Greenhilt, who snapped it in half when the new High Priestess of Hel formally requested it to be turned over to her, effectively rendering it useless.[6] It was later revealed that rather than learn the Protection from Daylight spell, the High Priest of Hel was actually learning the spell which speeds up vampire spawning.[7]
Roy breaks the staff in half.
Abilities[]
The staff contained several obscure spells, including Heal[8] and notably his own researched spell, Protection from Daylight, which does what the name implies. It also had the ability to speed up vampire spawning, which Malack used to revive Durkon, and "Durkon" uses it to vampirize the majority of the Creed of the Stone. It also has some spell to create lesser undead.
