Panel 1

The panel shows Julia and Roy continuing to talk, with Roy holding his right hand up towards Julia while Pointing to his head with his left hand.
Blackwing: (thinking) (off-panel) Hey Roy?
Julia: I've always been curious: Were you just absent from class the day they taught about helmets?
Roy: Hold on, Julia. I have a call on the other line. My spy on the outside.

Panel 2

The panel focuses on Roy.
Roy: (thinking) Go ahead, Blackwing.
Blackwing: (thinking) (off-panel) I wasn't sure if this counted as something changing because they're doing basically what we already knew they were doing.
Blackwing: (thinking) (off-panel) But Redcloak summoned this golden guy with five arms and they're going really fast now.

Panel 3

Roy gets a worrying expression on his face.
Roy: (thinking) They've sped up physically? Like with a Haste spell?
Blackwing: (thinking) (off-panel) No, I mean they're exploring each dungeon super quickly.
Roy: (thinking) How quickly?

Panel 4

The panel shifts to the outside of Kraagor's Gate, with Team Evil standing just inside a tunnel with a blue door and the Quinton projecting a yellow bridge to the brown door of the next tunnel while floating in the air. Several other doors marked with "12", "13", "14", "15" and "26" are visible, with the "13" and "15" doors also marked with red X marks. On the edge of the panel, Blackwing's beak and one of his wings are visible.
Blackwing: (thinking) Twenty-seven doors since we last talked.
Blackwing: (thinking) And I know that because now they're numbering them and generally being extra methodical.

Panel 5

The panel focuses on Team Evil, with a Demon Roach, Greyview, Redcloak, Oona and the MitD now standing on the yellow bridge while Xykon flies ahead and the Quinton closes the blue door, showing that it is marked with a "27".
Redcloak: Xykon, wait!
Xykon: Bah! The only way I'll get to kill anything cool is if I get inside before Law-Bot force-traps everything...
Xykon: ...worth killing.

Panel 6

The panel focuses on Redcloak as he uses his hands to shield his head from being hit by snow that flies at him from the right.
Redcloak: But that's defeating the whole point of the summoning, which was to conserve our magic!
Xykon: (off-panel) I don't need spells! I'm still a perfectly functional unholy abomination.
Xykon: (off-panel) ...9, 10, 11, yeah, that works.

Panel 7

The panel expands to show Redcloak between Greyview and Oona, with the Bugbear holding up her left index finger as they walk along the yellow bridge, with the brown door having been opened.
Oona: Well, Oona for one is feeling very happy.
Oona: Golden man is saving Monster Hollow resources so bugbear tribe can hunt later.

Panel 8

Oona hugs Redcloak from behind as he approaches the next tunnel, with Greyview already inside and a Demon Roach about to enter it.
Oona: Little bald man is keeping big promises to Oona!
Redcloak: Uh, yes, that was definitely my intent.
Greyview: Intentions matter only in absence of results. And then, only for the blaming.

Panel 9

The panel shifts back to Roy, who looks upwards to the sky.
Roy: (thinking) Twenty-seven?! So...like seven or eight minutes per dungeon??
Blackwing: (thinking) (off-panel) Some they go in and come right back out, because I guess they already cleared those. But yeah.

Panel 10

Roy looks towards the ground while holding his head with his left hand.
Roy: (thinking) OK...OK, thanks. And they haven't spotted you yet?
Blackwing: (thinking) (off-panel) First of all, I object to the inclusion of the word yet.

Panel 11

The panel shifts to Blackwing, who has diguised himself as a snowman wearing a top hat, with his beak as the "nose", but with his wings clearly visible.
Blackwing: (thinking) And second, I think my mastery of the subtle art of disguise is well-established by this point.

Trivia[]

  • In #1266, Xykon agrees that he will end every sentence with a word containing an odd number of letters. In Panel 5, he catches himself just in time. He is careful about his count with the word "abomination" in panel 6, and is also successful in his out-loud counting. However, "spells" at the end of his exclamation in Panel 5 is a word with an even number of letters. Perhaps the exclamation is viewed as part of the following sentence, or perhaps the Golden Modron did not hear or overlooked the error.
