Shirra Copperbottom is one of a select group of friends of Durkon Thundershield and of his mother Sigdi Thundershield, along with Kandro, Hoskin, Thirden, and one other unnamed dwarf. She is married,[1], and she and her husband have twin sons.[2] Her work involves the silver mines of her land.[3] She does not speak with a typical dwarven accent.
Shirra and Sigdi's other close friends were killed in a poison gas leak in a copper mine just prior to Durkon's birth. Sigdi had her resurrected with her own money, despite having never met her before her death, in order to save her from an afterlife in Hel.[4]
Shirra bought Sigdi a new dress for the celebration of Durkon's ordination.[5]
"Shirra Copperbottom" is the name just above Sigdi Thundershield on the Wall of Very Rich Donors in the Temple of Thor in Firmament[6], obscured in a dwarven font. This is presumed to be the same Shirra, and is the only use of her last name in the comic. It also suggests that she is wealthy having donated at least 20,000 gold pieces to the temple. One theory, based on her comment after being raised, is that she bought her silver mines with money she won suing her employer after the gas leak that killed her.[7]
Shirra answered Sigdi's call for aid at the Council of Clans, and was among those who entered the council chamber and held Gontor in the sunlight to destroy him. After the fight, she supplied Vaarsuvius with a bag of rubies, a material component for Forcecage spells.
Trivia[]
- Her name was mentioned by Sigdi in the comics, though to whom she referred was ambiguous. Rich Burlew identified her as the blonde dwarf.[8] She was subsequently directly identified in the comic.[9]
