Panel 1

Nale: Well, I can't say it's not refreshing to work with people who appreciate when to go big.
Nale: Though you seem plenty powerful already. Why not go knock the Gate down yourself?
Qarr: Oh, that's easy. Plausible deniability.
Nero: Exactly. If we were to directly intervene more than we already have-
Cedrik: -it might tip off the gods to our plans.

Panel 2

Lee: You, on the other hand, are an established wild card who has already pursued the Gates once.
Nale: Huh. Sounds to me like my soul might have some inherent value after all.
Nero: Perhaps. But you are not the only asset we control that could carry out this task.
Cedrik: And even this is only one of our many plans to take advantage of the situation.
Cedrik: We have fallbacks in case the gods end it first, for example.
Cedrik: Safer options, if less spectacular.

Panel 3

Nale: Different question, then: How exactly am I supposed to do...any of this? My body is lightly sprinkled over the dunes right now.
Lee: Yes, and sadly we do not possess the ability to resurrect you without at least a speck of your former form.
Nero: Events are moving far too quickly to waste time scouting the desert.
Cedrik: Instead, we offer an alternative means of rendering you fit for service.

Panel 4

Lee: We have been entrusted with the duty to promote Evil souls to newly formed fiends.
Nero: Normally, we only do this after centuries of breaking those souls down psychologically until nothing remains but their pure Evil Core.
Cedrik: But there's nothing stopping us from raising you to the station of Least Devil right now. It's just, you know...
Cedrik: Tacky.

Panel 5

Nale: Least Devil? Really? I thought you guys were taking this seriously.
Nale: My brother and his allies are enough of an obstacle, but Xykon and the goblin are up there, too.
Nale: And they all want the Gate intact.

Panel 6

Lee: We agree with that assessment of your relative strength.
Nero: Allow us to present you with our solution.
Cedrik: Ta da!
Cedrik open a portal.

Panel 7

Nale: What's that? Is that a scrying pool?

Panel 8

Cedrik: The Abyss, actually.
Cedrik push Nale down the portal.

Panel 9

Nale fall into the Abyss. Aaaaaaaaaa!!
Qarr: Heh heh, you guys are hilarious.
Cedrik: Oh, that's just the aesthetically preferred method for non-demons to enter the Abyss.
Qarr: Falling in?

Panel 10

Cedrik: No.
Sabine slam dunk Qarr into the Abyss. WHACK!

D&D Context[]

  • Lee states that the IFCC do not possess the means to resurrect Nale without at least a small amount of the dust that used to be his body. This implies they do not have access to a divine caster capable of casting True Resurrection, as that spell does not require the remains of the being to be resurrected. Likewise, they do not possess access to an arcane caster capable of casting Wish, as two castings of Wish can effectively duplicate True Resurrection; one to retrieve/restore the corpse, and one to duplicate Resurrection.
